Mayor Emanuel Celebrates Kickoff of Growing Home's Wood Street Farm

Mayor Emanuel visited CCLF borrower Growing Home on Wednesday to celebrate the kick-off of Growing Home’s Wood Street Farm Stand. The event highlighted the Mayor’s support of the nearly $363 million in public and private investments in Greater Englewood that is transforming the community into one of the nation’s largest urban agriculture districts.

Urban Juncture, Inc. recently sent out a press release to signal the start of construction on their Bronzeville Cookin' project. CCLF closed on construction and permanent financing to Urban Juncture in September 2012 for the development of a two-story commercial building. When complete, Bronzeville Cookin' will feature five individual food venues and create a transit-oriented destination point for casual fine dining in Chicago's Bronzeville community area.

CCLF joined The Plant last week as they celebrated the groundbreaking on their new anaerobic digester in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. The construction of this new system marks the first major step in The Plant’s path towards net-zero energy use. Bubbly Dynamics, Inc.’s Founder and Executive Director John Edel has been working with a team of volunteers to transform an abandoned meatpacking plant into a vertical farm and sustainable foods business incubator with the hope of bringing healthy, local foods to a food desert and creating jobs in the economically distressed community.
